Notes from Your New Community Lay Director

I would like to introduce myself to the Show Me the Way Emmaus Community as I assume my new position as Community Lay Director and Board Chair. I was at the Table of Anna on Walk #33. I attend Asbury United Methodist Church in Springfield. Mark & I celebrated our 10th anniversary this summer. We do not have any children, unless you count our 3 cats! Mark & I love to travel. We have been to Nicaragua on several mission trips. In 2010, we visited the Holy Land with Frederick & Laura Ann Zahn, and Jim & Linda Moore. These trips have been life changing experiences, as was my Walk to Emmaus! I work full time at Cox as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I am very grateful to all those who have served on the board in the past. You left a great legacy! Unfortunately, this year, we have accepted the resignations of Dave Williams, Bob Biache, and Jill Daniel for a variety of personal reasons. If you get a chance, please thank them for their service to our community.
The remainder of the Board met recently to re-evaluate our priorities and re-distribute the workload. It is already time to arrange the elections for next year, so we did not try to replace Dave, Bob, and Jill. We want to bring our new board members on in January and work to mentor them in their new roles. We have several other goals for the coming year, including revamping our membership roster, improving participation within the community, and offering support to the new Chrysalis community in our midst.
We unfortunately, are not in a position to also begin work on the spring walks at this time. As a result, we voted to cancel the Spring Walks for 2012. Our Fall Walks for 2012 will be Men's Walk #62 Oct 4-7, 2012 and Women's Walk #63 Oct 11-14, 2012. We are pleased to announce that the Lay Directors for the Fall, 2012 walks are Brian and Mary Ann Wood. We plan to support both Spring and Fall Walks in 2013.
We want to have a full roster for the upcoming elections, so if you get a phone call from me asking you to run, please say "Yes"!! We will be electing 1 from the north district, 1 from central and 2 from the south district, along with 1 clergy. We look forward to having a full board and serving you faithfully in 2012.
