Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?” – Luke 24:31-32 (NIV)
Do you long for spiritual renewal?
The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program that thousands worldwide have undertaken to renew their hearts, minds, souls, and strength. It serves the individual and returns them to their local church, closer to Jesus.
The program’s approach richly models Jesus' servanthood and encourages Christ’s disciples to act in ways appropriate to being “servants of all.”
The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour retreat, during which others in the Emmaus community love and care for you. During this time, you are spiritually enriched through life-changing talks from lay believers and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, the disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church.
The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship, and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The Emmaus community, comprised of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, supports the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving.
The Emmaus Walk typically begins on Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends.
The Walk to Emmaus is designed to strengthen your faith in God and Jesus Christ. Its purpose is to show you the love of Christ through community service so that you may develop into a Christian leader in your home, church, and work life.
All Walk to Emmaus participants, called pilgrims, must have a sponsor who has also participated in the Event. Your sponsor will provide information about the event. Have you completed an application for a Walk to Emmaus and submitted it to the Emmaus registrar?
Many of the area churches have someone from our community. However, don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you don’t know someone who can sponsor you. We welcome Christians from all walks of life, all denominations, all races, and all who love Jesus and want a more profound love for Him. Yes!!
